Mary Gustafson Retires

A retirement reception was held for Mary Gustafson-Graves on July 27. Then on July 28, Mary celebrated her birthday. Mary has worked for the state for 16 years and 10 of the years were spent at IVRS. Friends, family and co-workers attended her retirement reception. Mary plans to travel and enjoy time with her children and grandchildren. Thank you Mary for your many years of service. You will be missed by your co-workers.

Employees Recognized for Years of Service

The IVRS Employee Recognition Luncheon was held July 23 for Parker Building and DDS Employees. Pulled pork sandwiches, beans, chips and cookies were served and drawings were held for door prizes. Pictured below are IVRS staff in the Parker building that were recognized during the luncheon.

IVRS receives awards for State Employee Food Drive


Food Bank Committee members held a bathroom tissue drive for the Food Bank of Iowa and collected more than 5,000 rolls to donate as one of many fundraisers held this year.

IVRS received two awards from Governor Culver for the 2009 State Employee Food Drive for the Food Bank of Iowa. The Food Bank provides for 54,000 people annually (13,500 per week).

In 2009 State employees raised $112,793 for the Food Bank, an impressive 2,210 lbs. of food donated.

Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation in Des Moines raised an average of $121.39 per employee.

The Food Bank Committee, chaired by Barbara Dickerson, received first place for the Most Improved Award and second place for highest per employee average.

The Food Bank Committee hold events throughout the year to support the Food Bank of Iowa and thanks the State employees at IVRS in Des Moines for contributing to a successful year!
